How it started
This is my first project built with Gutenberg.
While I’ve worked with WordPress before, this was my first hands-on experience with the modern block-based workflow.
I used Spectra Blocks for this project because I didn’t just want to build something, I wanted to understand how modern WordPress development actually works.
What I built
In this project, I created a simple but clean layout where:
- The entire structure is built using the Gutenberg editor
- Responsive layouts are handled with Spectra blocks
- Pre-built blocks are customized based on real use cases
My main focus was to keep the editing experience simple for clients while maintaining a solid layout structure.
Why I chose Spectra
I chose Spectra because:
- It works natively inside the Gutenberg ecosystem
- It’s lightweight compared to traditional page builders
- It offers a good balance between speed and flexibility
Working on this project helped me understand how Spectra can speed up development while still keeping full control over Gutenberg blocks.
What I learned
The biggest takeaways from this project were:
- Gutenberg is more than an editor—it’s a system
- Block-based thinking requires a different mindset
- Separating content from design makes a site more future-proof
This project helped me move away from the old shortcode/page-builder mindset and toward a modern WordPress development approach.
What’s next
This project is just a starting point for me.
My next goals are:
- Building custom Gutenberg blocks
- Exploring more advanced Spectra-based workflows
- Creating cleaner and more scalable WordPress solutions
